Governor General Michaelle Jean approves PM Harper's request to suspend parliament, preempting the vote of no-confidence he would have surely lost. A slap in the face to all Canadians, including the majority of whom voted for the opposition parties in the House of Commons. "An attack on democracy," says NDP leader Jack Layton.
